Wie Linn's Stamp News vom 13.09.2019 meldet, hat ein US-Bundesgericht die letzte Portoerhöhung vom 29.01.2019 von 50 auf 55 Cent nachträglich für illegal und nichtig erklärt, da die seinerzeitige Begründung nicht hinreicht war. Das USPS muss nun nachlegen. Was das aber für das "heutige Geschäft" bedeutet, ist noch nicht klar.

Interessant ist ein Teil der Urteilsbegründung, in der ein Bogen von der "Besteuerung (durch stamps)" zur Amerikanischen Revolutuion geschlagen wird.

“Although the five-cent stamp price hike may have gone unnoticed by many,” wrote Judge Naomi Rao in the 30-page ruling, “the American Revolution was fomented in part by ordinary people who objected to taxation through stamps.”
