Hallo,
hier mal eine Information zu den sog. "Dunes" in englischer Sprache:

Dunes (stamps)
Dunes in philately refers to the many editions of stamps produced in the Trucial States (today the United Arab Emirates or UAE). The stamps, printed in great profusion in the 1960s and early 1970s, are mostly near-worthless today.

What are all the stamp issuing "Sand Dune' entities?

UAE STATES:

1. Abu Dhabi
2. Ajman
2a. Manama, dependency of Ajman
3. Dubai
4. Fujeira
5. Ras Al Khaima
6. Sharjah
6a. Khor Fakkan, dependency of Sharjah
7. Umm Al Qiwain

The 7 states started issuing stamps in 1963 or 1964. Before that they used stamps of the British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia. And from 1961 stamps inscribed 'Trucial States' in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The stamps of Abu Dhabi are all non-wallpaper. Hard to get material btw!

The stamps of the other 6 states and 2 dependencies are normal (all though most of them look like wallpaper) till mid 1967. In that year they (read: their agent) started with the wallpapers issues. 1000s of them. Exept for Dubai, only about 150 stamps there.

The UAE was established in 1971 and the first stamps were issued on 1-1-1973. The wallpaper issues went on till mid 1972.

NORTH YEMEN:

1. Mutawakilite Kingdom of Yemen, 1918-62
2. Yemen Arab Republic, 1962-1990
3. Mutawakilite Kingdom of Yemen, 1962-69 (After Yemen became a republic a civil war broke out and some royalist troops controlled a small area of the country)

Wallpaper garbage from mid 1967 till 1969 (Kingdom) and 1972 (Rep.)

ADEN / SOUTH ARABIA / SOUTH YEMEN:

1. Aden (No introduction needed as this was a British colony with some great stamps!)
2. Qu'aiti State
3. Kathiri State
4. Mahra State
5. State of Upper Yafa
6. Federation of South Arabia, 1962-67
7. People's Republic of Southern Yemen, 1967-70
8. People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, 1970-90

Qu'aiti and Kathiri started issuing stamps in the 1940s till 1967 with only wallpaper in the last one or two years.

Mahra and Upper Yafa only issued stamps in 1967. Exept for their first definitive sets everything is wallpaper.

The Federation of South Arabia was formed by some smaller states in 1962 and merged with Aden in 1963.
They became independent in 1967 and together with the 4 states mentioned in the list formed the People's Republic of Southern Yemen. Which changed it's name in 1970 into People's Democratic Republic of Yemen.
No wallpaper issues.

In 1990 the Arab Republic and the People's Democratic Republic united as the Republic of Yemen.

OMAN:

Sultanate of Muscat and Oman and since 1970 Sultanate of Oman.
First stamps in 1966 if you don't count the British post stamps. No wallpaper.

But there are also stamps inscribed 'State of Oman'. These are all illegal wallpaper. An Imam and his rebels who fought under the name 'State of Oman' were defeated the the Sultan in 1959.
All the 'stamps' are I believe issued after 1960.

Between 1965-75 there was a rebellion in the region Dhufar. The same people that issued State of Oman stamps started also issuing Dhufar stamps. Illegal wallpaper too.

But I must note that there are used stamps on cover known. Posted from the cities which housed the governments in exile.

OTHER COUNTRIES:

Jordan: some wallpaper between 1963 and 1967, but not everything. And unfortunately again since 2003.

Qatar: wallpaper between 1965 and 1973, but like Jordan not everything.

Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait: no wallpaper

Gruss
